We get questions all the time. So here is a list of some of ones that we get asked the most…
Q: Can I buy or trade for a DFW Ghostbusters patch?
A: Not currently. The official DFW Ghostbusters shoulder patch is, and almost certainly will always be, something that is available exclusively to official members of the Dallas/Fort Worth Ghostbusters. That being said, we are looking into ways to make variants of the patch available for sale/trade. When that happens, you will be able to find them in our Merch Store.
Q: How do I join the DFW Ghostbusters?
A: We’re pretty picky about who we let into our group. Not because we have any desire to be elitist, but because we’ve run into more than our fair share of people over the years who just don’t mesh with our members. That being said, those who have an interest in joining can begin the process by joining our recruiting pool, located in the DFW Ghostbusters 101 Facebook Group. There, our veteran members are more than happy to answer questions and point you in the right direction to get your gear together. Once that’s done, we’ll see how you do at a few events and appearances, before a final decision is rendered.
Q: How much does it cost to build a Proton Pack?
A: It really depends on how detailed and in-depth you want to go with your build. We’ve seen some decent packs built for as little as $200, while some can run well into a thousand or more. It just depends on a number of factors, including the material that you’ll be working with, where you purchase your parts from, and if you choose to add any effects– such as lights, sound, smoke, etc.
Q: Will you help me build a Proton Pack?
A: That seriously depends on your definition of “help”. We all have day jobs, just like you, and only have so much time to devote to helping you put a pack together. All too often, we have people who get upset with us for not dropping everything to help them build their pack from the ground up– and we’re sorry, but that’s just not feasible. We can happily point you where you need to go– but we’re not going to do it for you. Besides… doing it yourself is half of the fun!
Q: How do the DFW Ghostbusters feel about the 2016 reboot?
A: Honestly? Let’s put it like this: Do you think that Shakespeare, for example, would approve 100% of every modern incarnation of his work? In the case of Ghostbusters, we’re talking about an intellectual property that was released in 1984, and hadn’t had a single entry into the franchise since 1997. It was left to stagnate for nearly twenty years. Was the 2016 film what everybody wanted? No. But hell, we’re just happy that it was shown any love at all. And, let’s face it, unless it’s going to be the admittedly aging Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and the late Harold Ramis (which is theoretically possible), it’s never going to be exactly what we want.
Q: Do you charge to appear at events?
A: We are strictly non-profit, which means that as long as our schedules permit, we’re always happy to show up, take pictures with fans, and have fun. That being said, depending on the distance, travel time, and costs associated with making an appearance, we may require compensation to bring any of the vehicles out, hotel rooms for our members, and sometimes a donation to one of the charities that we support. Again, this isn’t for personal gain– it’s simply to make an appearance easier for us to make happen.
Q: What kind of events do you do?
A: You name it! Nightclubs, concerts, movie premieres and screenings, parades, comic conventions… the list goes on and on! We’ve run panels, put on shows for audiences, and much more. If you’ve got something of interest, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Q: Do you do birthday parties?
A: We love doing birthday parties! Unfortunately, we get asked to do so very many of them that it’s incredibly difficult to make them happen. For that reason, we’ve begun requiring a $400.00 cash donation in exchange for our group members to make an appearance at a birthday party.
Q: Do you charge for photos?
A: We never charge, and we never hesitate to jump in and have our pictures taken with you. The more, the merrier!
